Regrout with fein multimaster tool
70Fein MultiMaster FMM 250Q
The Fein Multimaster is the Ultimate Regrouting Tool
The Fein Multimaster is a superb tool for many household uses.
The Multimaster is a vibrating tool that makes it the perfect tool to regrout a shower or bath. The vibrating head will not chip or damage the surrounding tile like a spinning rotary tool can. It is easy to hold and control when you are using it to remove grout and is also a necessary tool for replacing tiles. When replacing tiles the Multimaster can remove the grout so the tile can be broken and removed without damaging the surrounding tiles.
The Fein Multimaster also has many other uses other then removing grout.
There are many cutting tools available that can be used for woodwork, cutting and many home repair tasks. With the vibrating action the fein tool does not create a lot of dust or flying debris like many rotating tools do. Also the same control that that this tool has for regrouting is also evident when doing many home repair tasks. If you have ever seen the marketing video for the Fein Multimaster you can see that it can do many of the tasks necessary for even a major remodeling job.
The Fein Multimasters oscillating action was patented for many years but now the patent has expired.
There are other companies making tools with similar vibrating action as the Multimaster. I tell you from my experience as a tile regrouting pro that I would never trust any other kind of vibrating tool for regrouting other then the Fein tool. There are many stories of these copycat tools prematurely breaking or burning up under heavy use. I use the Fein tool almost daily and this is really the real deal as far as this type of tool goes.
When using it to regrout a shower hold the tool steady with two hands to control it and move slowly in an up and down in a slow cutting motion.
Do not put too much pressure and let the tool do the work for you. If you are careful and patient the diamond regrouting bit will stay in the grout lines and you will not slip and damage the surrounding tiles. It is only when you are rushed or not paying attention that the diamond bit will come out of the grout lines. Just work slow and steady and you can remove all the grout from a shower or bath without damaging any tiles.

Get the variable speed model.
I suggest getting the variable speed model Fein FMM 250Q Fein Multimaster.
You will find that the added control you get from being able to adjust the speed will definitely help to control the tool. Plus you will probably be using the tool for many other tasks where having the option to control the speed will help. This tool will literally last you a lifetime so the additional cost is well worth the investment. Also make sure that you rotate the diamond blade every 15 minutes while regrouting so that the blade will wear evenly. If you take care of the diamond blade you can do five or six regrouting jobs with a single blade.
You can get more detailed information about how to regrout a shower at the North American Tile Cleaning Organization.
