ITBS practice testing for Gifted Kids

ITBS stands for Iowa Test of Basic Skills. This test is given to kids all across the United States and compares kids intelligence, aptitude and cognitive ability against all the other kids across the country.

The test covers basic learning subjects in the following categories:

• Reading
• Mathematics
• Language Aptitude
• Social Studies
• Science

All public schools in the United States are required to give the ITBS tests to assess school kids development across the nation. These tests are not only used to evaluate school kids development but is also used to grade teachers and schools for academic development and achievement standards.  It is an important test in determining federal funding criteria for school systems and is also used at the state level to grade teachers and schools.

Preparing your students basic knowledge set for the ITBS is as simple as just ensuring you student does well in their standard school curriculum.

Many parents want their children to excel on the ITBS since this test can be used as a criteria for placing their kids in gifted classes and schools.

While only a small percentage of kids can be accepted into gifted classes there are things that can be done to help your kid do well on these types of standardized tests.

The key to helping kids excel on these standardized tests is to help kids learn deductive reasoning and teach kids how to take these standardized tests in general. Taking these standardized tests takes some training and perseverance (by the kids and the parents). These are timed tests and they can cause even intelligent students to falter if they are not properly prepared. While two kids with similar intelligence may take the same tests the one with some training in deductive reasoning and test taking will typically do much better than the other student who has not had any type of training.

While it can help your child to take some ITBS practice tests to help them learn the test taking system these practice tests are a one time experience that kids easily forget. These tests are not mind training exercises and only slightly helps kids with their deductive reasoning and test taking abilities.

These test preparation bundles will challenge your kids mind in all aspects of deductive reasoning, cognitive abilities and also general test taking abilities. These are not your standard add this or multiply that type of mind building skill sets. These tests help your child think about what exactly is needed to solve problems in all aspects of life. An hour or so a night is all that is needed working with these books to truly help your child succeed in school and in life in general.

Children in normal classes are just that.  Normal children and there is nothing wrong with normal children just like there is nothing wrong with normal adults.  You should consider thought that normal children are baby sat much of the time in the classroom and the below average students in a normal classroom will not help you child to exceed in life.   Also depending on your child's school district the normal classes can be very poor learning environments for children.  The difference between getting your child accepted into the gifted program can be the difference between a child succeeding in life or simply getting by. 

These ITBS and COGAT tests should not be taken lightly if you want your child to enter gifted classes and excell to their ultimate potential.  

It is recommended that you order a grade above your child's level if you have any hopes of your child being accepted into the gifted classes.  For example if your child is in second grade then order the third grade Cogat test bundle.  You will be glad you did as you child should be able to master the next grade practice tests to be truly in the highest percentile of students that are accepted into the gifted classes. 

For average students you should order the test bundle for their current grade level.  These tests are designed to help them to open their mind and do much better on these tests and in school in general when they study with these test prep bundles.
